Stephanie Pedraza is a unique combination of singer, songwriter, flamenco dancer and cantaora (traditional flamenco singing) based in Vancouver BC. Born in to a latin-american family and having moved to Colombia at a very early age, she has been constantly immersed in her Latin roots of song and dance.
Her original musical compositions are an honest reflection of her rich latinamerican background, of her experience growing up in Cali-Colombia and a perfect blend of traditional latin rhythms, pop, English and Spanish lyrics.
It was at the age of 19 that she fell in love with flamenco, and ever since, has dedicated her life to mastering the art. In 2003 she moved to Andalucia, Spain, where she trained intensively both in singing and dancing at the world reknown Fundacion de Arte Flamenco Cristina Heeren where she studied with some of the most prominent figures in flamenco such as: Milagros Menjibar, Rafael Campallo, Carmen Ledesma, Asuncion “La Choni” Perez and Sonia Miranda. And later with Joaquin Grilo, El Farru, Isabel Bayon, Andres Peña, and David Hornillo to name a few.
Stephanie released her first cd titled “Where I Rest” in November 2011. Since then, she has been featured on CBC radio as well as being invited by CBC LIVE Musical Nooners to perform an outdoor concert in downtown Vancouver this Summer.
She was selected for the second consecutive year for BOmm Bogotá Music Market 2014, one of Latinamerica´s biggest music platforms for artists to network with music buyers and record labels, have their music reviewed and qualify for one on one meetings. Some of these buyers included: Sony Records, Warner Music and The Rhythm Foundation to name a few.
Her most recent tour in South America included opening for legendary singer Ana Gabriel at the Estadio Pascual Guerrero in Cali, Colombia with an audience of 25.000 people.
Among the numerous festivals she has performed, some include: Cali Vive 2014, Expolatino Calgary 2013, The Harmony Arts Festival, Cultural Blast, Vancouver and Calgary International Flamenco Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival and Robson Valley Music Festival.
Stephanie is currently collaborating with Toronto’s based dancer Carmen Romero on a production which will premier in 2016. Also on this project is acclaimed choreographer and dancer Oscar Nieto and guitarist Benjamin Barile.
